| Corey Jacobs is big Honda Prelude enthusiast. Being the restaurant manager he find time and money to participate various series with his 1993 Honda Prelude VTEC. He grew from the H4 to H1 class at the Honda Challenge series and has been a long time participant of this event.
One of the most heartbreaking years in Honda Challenge Corey and his Honda Prelude participated in 2002. The final in Virginia was the deciding race of the season. Corey Jacobs started the weekend with a small H2 points lead over Alex Ratcliffe. Everyone expected a showdown between the two and was not disappointed. The two fought an epic battle with Jacobs showing superior speed down the straight but Ratcliffe holding an advantage in handling. Ratcliffe went off late in the race handing Jacobs the win and the Championship, but the final results showed Ratcliffe turned the fastest lap of the race.
So the Sunday race started with the championship decided, but neither Ratcliffe nor Jacobs seemed to care as they once again qualified 1-2 and proceeded to top the drama of Saturday's race. Unofficially, the two swapped the lead nine times leading up to a truly spectacular photo finish. Yes, actual photos finish. The results came up showing the two in a dead tie via transponder. Race Director Jim Johnson had to review a spectator's videotape from the start/finish line in order to declare Ratcliffe the winner... by inches. But it was a friendly one as both competitors freely admit that they love racing against each other.
Corey Jacobs also took part at lots of other touring championships. The most rated was the United States Touring Car Championship.
United States Touring Car Championship (USTCC) is a series for sport compact sedans using nearly stock four and six-cylinder engines. Unlike similar European and Australian sedan series, the USTCC does not allow ultra-expensive modifications such as sequential transmissions and exotic suspensions. While factory suspension mounting points must be adhered to, modifications allowed include replacement shocks, springs, sway bars and brakes. The series also allows limited engine bolt-on parts such as headers, throttle bodies, computers, and air intakes, which can increase motor output to 170-200 hp. The series is extremely popular with racers, fans and sponsors alike.
Among other results victory in E1 class at Valentine 300 in 2003, victory in D Street Prepared class at Jefferson Circuit in 2001, fourth in Street Touring S class at Virginia Motorsports Park in 2000. |
