| The 4th generation Honda Prelude has weak headlights. As time passes, sand and small stones make thousands of tiny scratches. Those scratches are filled by mud and can’t be completely removed by a simple cleaning. This blurred glass does not allow much light to pass through and can also be responsible for spreading it in the wrong direction. It is not only about having a comfortable ride but also a big security issue; especially in autumn and winter when it becomes darker earlier and often foggy.
In this case the easiest way is to just replace the headlights completely but it will cost you quite a bit. There is also an economic solution. You can just polish the headlights. The technology that we will describe is not complicated at all and can be reproduced either at a small workshop or at private garage.
The following components are required:
- Abrasive sending discs with wide graining range (600, 1000, 2000, 4000).
- Bottle of polish 2000.
- Cloth for polishing.
- Tape.
All the components will cost you about $20 and will be enough to polish a dozen pair of headlights. For saving time you may use the polishing machine but it is not critical.
First of all wash the headlights. Then put the tape at all nearby surfaces to protect them. When polishing for the first time use coarse graining (600). All discs have to be moistened before polishing. Polish the surface for 3-4 minutes. After this the glass will become matted.
Wash the headlights and polish them using disc with 1000 graining. Repeat the operation with 200 and 4000 graining. Each step will last 3-4 minutes. Right afterwards wash and dry the headlights. Put some polish liquid onto the cloth and rub the surface by hand.
The whole polishing process will take about 15 minutes. You will be impressed with the result. |
